Identifying A Problem

AntsGarden ants are usually 3-4mm long of a brown/black colour. Garden ants usually nest outdoors, in lawns, flower beds, beneath paving and at the base of walls.

Worker ants usually go into houses for food and they like food that is sweet and sugary.  When one ant finds food, there will soon be others and a trail of worker ants taking the food back to the nest.  Garden ants are harmless and are not a public health pest, therefore not a health hazard.

What can you do?

  • We recommend that householders should treat garden ants themselves. If possible, trace the trail of worker ants to the nest. You can usually see the opening to the nest by small piles of fine earth surrounding the entrance.  It is possible to purchase various insecticides to eradicate problems yourself.
  • If you cannot trace the nest, you may wish Arrowguard to do a treatment for you by use of an insecticidal dust or spray. We use an insecticide containing Bendiocard, which is usually found to be the most effective.
  • Treatment will need to be carried out to areas such as doorframes, airbricks, waste pipes and nesting areas.
