Identifying a problem
Grey squirrels are active during the months of January to December. In their search for food and nesting material they can cause serious destruction through of gnawing of cables, building structures and other vulnerable materials such as insulation. If squirrels are infesting your roof space, they can be denied access by sealing up and proofing access routes. Obviously, it will be necessary to inspect for any adults or young in the vicinity before this is done. Squirrels have two breeding seasons in the year. One in February/March and the other in June/July with three to seven kittens in each litter.
Grey squirrels inhabit loft, attics and roof spaces as well as outbuildings. They are not thought to carry human diseases although they will bite if they are frightened. Signs of activity in the loft include scratching noises and droppings, however, these can be mistaken for rat droppings. Squirrels may pass fleas onto domestic animals, however pets can be treated using flea treatments.

During a call out we will inspect the premises and identify as best we can where they are accessing the property from. Treatment will include trapping or culling to ensure control of activity. A follow up treatment will be done 10 – 14 days after the initial. However live traps must be checked daily and Arrowguard must be informed of any animal caught so that we can remove them.
